Marcela Perez

"Hola! I'm Marcela Pérez Galindo. I've always liked art and I'll never forget how, as a child, I enjoyed visiting my maternal grandmother, who was a painter. I remember I'd go into her studio – I was fascinated by her brushes and her paintings. I loved to watch her paint. And enjoyed visiting my paternal grandmother, who wrote poems. I loved reading them and today I still read them when I want to relax.

"When I was 12, I went with my father to live in San Diego, California. I loved it. That was a very lovely time in my life and I stayed there for 14 years. Then I decided to return to my beloved Mexico and work in arts and crafts.

"I've been fortunate to have been able to travel a lot. I've been to the U.S., Japan, Europe and Australia, and this has been a rich cultural experience that influenced my creativity.

"I like to work at night. Sometimes when I'm sleeping, ideas come to me in my dreams. So I get up and work on my designs, and many ideas come out of this.

"My greatest challenge for the future has been to bring my designs to every corner of the world. I love my Mexican heritage – the colors, the flavor of my homeland. And I like all kinds of handicrafts. I'm very proud to be a Mexican and I love to create things and share my ideas."
