Wayan Siplang Adnyana

"Early on in my life, I wasn't very interested in what I've accomplished today. My interest began after finishing my studies, when I left Bali and moved to the island of Lombok, where I lived with my uncle and his family. For a very long time Lombok has been recognized as the essential place of the earthenware industry. Day by day I watched people making earthenware products, inspiring me to learn the techniques. It is not as hard as some people might think, but it isn't very easy either. I love the final process, which is firing, because some of my works end up with different colors than I had predicted.

"I learned to make earthenware pieces for five years and have been creating many designs and motifs ever since. Generally I work with traditional motifs and designs, modifying them with attractive ornaments. Occasionally customers will bring me designs to be executed.

"For a while I owned a small shop in Lombok to sell my products, but because of marketing problems and little capital I returned to Bali and opened an art shop. Currently, I tend to spend most of my time serving customers who come to my shop and entrust my assistant with the production."
