Ravi Rela

"Hello, my name is Ravi Rela and I come from the beautiful and vibrant city of Jaipur in Rajasthan. Jaipur is such a wonderful place, where colors and tradition meet – a place filled with celebrations and fun. Every family here practices some kind of arts and crafts. I always enjoyed watching people do creative work, and this is how I became involved in the decorative arts.

"I remember a friend's father who worked in the field of marble crafting. With great fascination, I watched him work. I was studying for my Bachelor of Science degree at that time. But he inspired me, and I began learning from him. It took me a while, but once I mastered the craft it was smooth sailing.

"Today, I collaborate with some 100 artisans. It gives me immense joy to see our work appreciated by people. With the help of all my colleagues, I was fortunate to participate in one of Indias' most prestigious exhibitions, called 'The Society Exhibition' in Mumbai in 2002.

"All my designs are traditional patterns, popular worldwide. I also experiment with innovative new designs. I frequently use bright colors and gold foil to add elegance to my pieces.

"Besides dedicating my time to my craft, I also spend time doing social work through the Lions Club of Jaipur, Hawamahal. This gives me the satisfaction of doing something for the welfare of others."
