The aríbalo is a recipient that dates from pre-Inca times. Dionisio Rojas Gutiérrez crafts this exquisite example in hand-painted clay. Working in red, black and tan – colors favored by pre-Hispanic peoples – he recreates motifs from the ethnic groups that settled in what is now Cuzco. A jaguar in high relief gazes steadfastly from past to present.
